The Solaradobe home of Phil and Sharon Zeman,
Chaparral, NM For anyone who has followed adobe construction in the El Paso area, the shape of the clerestory parapets of the Zeman home makes it easy to identify it's architect; Mac Caldwell. Start with 2,400 sq. ft. of living space and add a sunspace and a 2 car garage and you have a 3,400 sq. ft. project that will challenge any owner builder. The walls are constructed of fully stabilized adobes from the Adobe Patch in La Luz N.M. (closed) The exterior walls will be insulated to R-10+ and the ceiling to R-30. The home features a sawtooth clerestory design allowing solar gain throughout. Phil and Sharon receive lots of encouragement and advice from Phil's parents who built their own solaradobe right next door. The Solaradobe Home of Cody and Pati Winn, Chaparral, NM Originally designed and built by owner builder Larry Fisher, the 1,700 sq. ft. home is now starting to reflect the work and tastes of Cody and Pati. The design is a direct gain system with operable clerestories and includes many custom features such as marble tiled window sills and bathroom counters. The original porch on the north wall was previously enclosed but the finish work has been left to Cody. Be sure to check out his woodworking skills in the beautiful rustic bed frames he creates. |
